Fashion and Sublimation Pathway

The Fashion and Sublimation Pathway teaches emerging designers fashion design, digital illustration, and sublimation printing to create portfolio-ready products and launch creative ventures in Hawai?i’s fashion and maker economy.

The Fashion and Sublimation Pathway at Honolulu Community College is a hands-on training series for emerging designers and creative entrepreneurs. Students learn the foundations of fashion design, digital illustration, and sublimation printing while exploring the cultural influences behind Hawai?i’s aloha wear tradition. Across three progressive courses, learners develop technical production skills, create wearable prototypes, and build a portfolio-ready mini collection. This pathway prepares students to design, produce, and launch their own creative products in Hawai?i’s growing fashion and maker economy.

Course Description

Discover the art of sublimation printing while exploring fashion history from traditional textiles to modern digital techniques. Learn color theory, design fundamentals, and create your first wearable prototypes inspired by Hawai?i’s aloha wear heritage.

Identify sublimation-compatible materials and substrates.

Safely operate heat press and sublimation printers.

Course Description

Bridge fashion history with modern branding and digital production methods using Adobe Photoshop Elements. Learn print placement, color calibration, and sustainable production practices while producing 2–3 branded products.

Learning Outcomes

Create digital or hand-drawn textile designs.

Apply print placement, color calibration, and batch workflow methods.

Implement production quality checks and sustainable practices.

Develop 2–3 sample products from patterns.

Course Description

Build a cohesive fashion collection integrating sustainability and Hawaiian design influences. Develop 3–4 pieces blending cultural heritage with innovation, and compile a professional digital/print portfolio.

Learning Outcomes

Design and produce a cohesive capsule collection (3–4 pieces).

Integrate historical motifs and sustainability principles into design concepts.

Create product mockups and marketing collateral.

Present a professional portfolio and participate in peer critique.
